About Paper Words

Paper Words is proudly based in New York amidst the hustle and bustle of a city chock full of different cultures and customs. Our mission is to provide fun and funny greeting cards that “go beyond the rainbow.”

What exactly does “beyond the rainbow” mean, you may ask? It actually has several meanings (pretty tricky, right?).

We want to provide the gay and lesbian community with greeting cards that go beyond the usual fare of jockstraps and rainbows, stereotypes, and explicit nudity. While there is a place in the market for these cards, we know that they are not for everyone. We want people to have a choice in the type of cards they purchase. Paper Words makes greeting cards that are appropriate for many sending situations, such as a same-sex couple's wedding, the birthday of a partner, or even to congratulate someone on coming out. But we also want your mother to feel comfortable buying our cards, and we want retail stores to be able to proudly display our cards and not feel they have to corral them in an adult section at the back of the store.

But we don't just make cards for the gay and lesbian community (and here's the second meaning!) – we go beyond the rainbow and make cards for everybody- cards for everyday occasions like birthdays, weddings and holidays, as well as adoption, the theater community, and invitations and announcements for all your special occasions. We want everyone to be able to share a special moment with a card from Paper Words.
